"
Compassion! " as animal lover, Sabrina A. Parisi of Dolce
Sinfonia in Beverly Hills not only invested countless hours
and thousands of thousand dollars to save a 6 years old
female Yorkie, Milly; moreover by presenting "Milly as gift
of love" she also helped and brought happiness and love to a
young breast cancer victim.
But let's
go back to the origin of this story. It all started in the
2001.
Who is
Milly? Milly is the nickname for Millestelle, the Italian
translation for “One thousand Stars”. They shiny and bright
and softly light the dark sky. Milly is an 8 Lb Yorkshire
terrier. She is tall and skinny. She is not from Sabrina's
kennel but taken in as part of Sabrina’s family. Milly is
spayed, so she is not able to produce puppies. Milly has
big, brown and intelligent eyes, very intelligent and always
there to greet and wag her short tail for anyone that she
saw. If Milly could talk she would say only loving words as
Milly knows how to give and knows how to receive love. But
Milly is also a stubborn terrier and perhaps her bossy
personality caused her to be terribly injured. This injury
caused Milly a horrible jaw fracture. Sabrina's compassion
began that same day she took Milly back in her home.

Who is
Sabrina? Sabrina is a fashionable, eccentric a competitive
young woman that created the first stylish/brand kennel in
the word. Sabrina is the founder of Dolce Sinfonia Yorkies
now located in Beverly Hills. A name that lists over 100
championships obtained worldwide. Sabrina is also the
founder and president of "America Health For All" a
non-profit organization that raises money for those
individuals that cannot afford to pay for medical and/or
veterinary costs.
How and
why Milly got injured? This is a mystery since many
questions were never answered. Most likely she got injured
fighting against a bigger animal. When this happed Milly
and other Yorkies were left at a ranch in Northern
California to be taken care while the family went on a
vacation in Italy. When they returned to the States they
took the dogs back. While at home Sabrina noticed that
Milly was not eating normally. One week later, Milly did
not move her mouth as the jaw dropped and was loose.
Sabrina immediately took her to the emergency. The X-rays
showed that Milly had a fractured jaw.
The vet
was very clear, Milly’s injury was so bad and so costly that
the vet suggested to put her to sleep. Sabrina was
devastated to learn about this. But Sabrina is stubborn
perhaps just like those amazing Yorkies she raises By
looking in Milly's eyes, Sabrina understood her despair and
need to live. Many sad days followed for Sabrina’s family.
Milly's feeling was so strong that Sabrina refused to
abandon Milly. Sabrina could see in those sweet eyes that
the Milly wanted love and wanted to be cared for.
Therefore, Sabrina, known by her eccentricity, decides not
to oblige the vet’s suggestions to put the dog down. She
decided instead to do everything possible to save this
lively dog's life.
One day,
two very well-known breeders told Sabrina how insane and
nonsense it was to save
this dog’s life. “You have other dogs, a family, a life,
why would you invest all of this time and money for a dog
that after all it is not going to be used for breeding? She
is not even that pretty, anyway with that terrible jaw!”
But
Sabrina does not have anything in common with many of the
other breeders. She loves animals and she cares for them
almost as humans. She raises dogs for passion of this breed
not for financial purposes. Her answer to these two
breeders was: “By deciding to own a dog you accept all
responsibilities to own and to support your dogs. Animals
are not cars. They are amazing creatures created to teach
us the real word of “love”. Even, if there would only be a
small possibility of a positive result with surgeries, I wil
do all that it takes to keep Milly alive”.
Therefore
Milly was put under her first surgery. Then a second one,
then a third one... Milly needs to wear a cast and she
cannot eat on her own. Sabrina spent five to six months
hand-feeding and caring for Milly as well her taking care
for her two little one and two year old girls. Times went
by and Milly's jaw reconstruction did not seem to work. But
Sabrina wanted to win and achieve the positive result.
Milly needed lots of care and no-one except Sabrina could
really took care of her. Sabrina sang to Milly while
holding her in her arms so Milly could quietly fall asleep
and forget the trauma. Sabrina talked to her and shares her
affection with this dog that did not want to die! Milly
survived as a result of Sabrina’s persistence, compassion
and love. Finally Milly was driven to San Diego where three
surgeons are asked to save this dog. Millie's two hour
long, fifth and last surgery was considered a success.
Milly's lower jaw had to be reduced in size as it could not
be connected properly to the upper jaw. Now Milly looked
like a cartoon... she had a permanent crooked smile, she was
funny to see but she was finally able to move her mouth and
eat her first baby-food on her own. Milly was finally happy
and looked with gratitude at the family with her big
expressive brown eyes!
Now, you
think this is the "happy ending". But let's continue as the
story does not end here.
Sabrina,
Milly and Stefanie are connected by destiny.
Compassion got stronger as Sabrina met a wonderful and brave
young woman (through a mutual friend Robert R.), Stefanie La
Rue inflicted by breast cancer. Stefanie has big blue
eyes. She is lively; she is full of joy and energy.
Stefanie does not want to die! Doctors told Stefanie that
her cancer is too aggressive and she undergoes many
surgeries and therapies. Stefanie needed lots of care and
just like Milly, Stefanie has so much love to give and the
need to receive much love in exchange. Sabrina understandood
that this girl needed affection and the support of something
that would give her unconditional love, Milly similarly a
survivor. Therefore, Sabrina decided to surprise Stefanie
and Milly became a gift of love. Milly was now fine, she
did not need more surgeries, she could eat on her own, she
could play and began her normal life. Sabrina drove to
Stefanie's house, she had something very important for
Stefanie. Sabrina brought a gift of love. Milly is given as
a present (no money involved) to Stefanie as message of
kindness. Sabrina is a symbol of compassion and Milly's
life is a mission of love. Maybe there was a reason that
Milly survived, her road crossed Stephanies and together
they supported each other as they fought for survival and
happiness. Both are defiant and yet happy and joyus, loving
life no matter the trials they had to face.
Sabrina
looked at Stefanie and asked: “Does it bother you that
Milly has a crooked smile?” Stefanie had a pale face that
day, two days before she had anther painful surgery. Her
answer was immediate: “Is Milly bothered by my bold head and
my missing breast?”
The
separation was hard. Sabrina and her family loves Milly
immensely but they knew that what she was doing was the best
thing ever for Milly and for Stephanie. No other creature
would be able to share that love and understanding with
Stefanie. They were born to be together. Sabrina cried
mixed tears of loss and at the same time of happiness as she
knew that there was a reason for all that happened that past
year. The story continues as Stephanie considered herself a
survivor also thanks to Milly's immense love and to
Sabrina's compassion!
The moral
of this story is: Each one of us as a mission. There are
not worthless animals as there are not worthless people.
One day a vet told Sabrina "why would you invest all these
money and time for a worthless dog? This is a dog that is
not going to be used for breeding? A dog that after all
will remain handicapped" Sabrina did show that
nevertheless, Milly wasn't worthless at all as Milly had an
important mission in life and the mission was to help a
young human survive and battle of a devastating cancer.

Now Milly
and Stephanie are inseparable as a family. They move about
the city for shopping, to the doctor’s office and just for
walks, always together. They are now one happy soul and
destined to be together as long as God wished. God bless
are care for them both.

" Sabrina, Milly has been extremely
instrumental in my healing process and has been pure
therapy for me through my treatments. Example: I
took her almost EVERY day (for 7 weeks) to radiation
with me. She kept me in good company in times when I
felt so alone. She also helped bring joyous smiles
to all others that waited with us in the radiation
waiting room. It seemed as if everyday other
patients waited for our arrival. I made so many
friends during
that time, old and young, struggling just to get
through the process. Hopefully we made a difference
in their lives as they certainly impacted mine and
Milly's! " Stefanie La Rue (breast cancer warrior)
